LDVP 5000 Introduction to Leadership Theory

This course explores different theories of leadership for the purpose of enabling students to write their
own personal mission statement based on the theories presented. Participants will first learn and
understand the definition of leadership.  Five specific theories or approaches to leadership will be
taught during this course. These include: Situational Leadership, Contingency Theory, Path-Goal 
Theory, Authentic Leadership, and  Transformational Leadership.  The course explores the 
knowledge base and skills necessary to be an effective leader in a variety of settings. Students
will assess their personal leadership qualities and develop a plan to enhance their leadership
potential.
